slashy Boar horror

mid-late 2015 I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to work on Chris Suns "Boar". A low budget horror movie about a massive rogue wild Boar that terrorises campers and screaming people.

It is in no way meant to be like Razorback...

What could have been...

Earlier this year we launched a Kickstarter campaign to expand our TrueSkate game into the Nextgen 4K market. The idea was awesome, take our hardcore skate title and make it the controller for a true 4k experience on console.

Sadly everyone just wanted skate 4

Socchi Mascots

Long, long time no post toward the latter half of 2013 I had the honour and privelage to be able to do some design, sculpting and prototyping work for Global Creatures here in West Melbourne. You ALL remember the winter Olympics last year right...? Well I was able to consult on the 3 massive robotic puppets from the opening and closing ceremonies. My primary design responsibility was the bear who lit and extinguished the torch. Also got to work with Stephen Schultz again who handled most of the design work for the Leopard and the Bunny.

Gadfly

Ive been doing a little more concept development work lately. took a 5 min thumb, did a rough form block in in maya to get the perspective right and then... pencils, pens, a little promak and back into photoshop for quick cleanup.

I haven't worked in pencil for some time, so lots of ground to make up. That said I think the forms are good, I will consider these to be concept development sketches. I must shout out to Mike Butkus whos work I've admired for some time.

A quick update on the Hind model. Starting to refine critical shapes and tweak the profile. I've also gone ahead with some hard surfacing on the head, hands and upper body armour.

A quick and somewhat rough colour treatment for a character  bust I'm building in zbrush.
Just a low investment model to test the hard surface modelling features in the package.

This is the first 3d print of a section of my newly named MuleByrd project. It's in the workshop getting some attention at the moment. hopefully soon I'll have some pictures of the final painted model soon.

Quickly then, before I turn into a pumpkin

before bed, Thought I'd post this quick update.
Moved the BayHopper over to z-brush for detailing. I vaguely have this notion of having the thing 3D printed. Played around with masks to find a good way of panel detailing.

Yay, Got the okay to post (just the one view) of some character work I did for a company I worked for a few years back. Game res. Sculpted in zbrush, re-top'oed and textured.

Kinda cute:

I'm one of those folks who've always admired the Warhammer 40k IP from a distance, I've never played the tabletop game but I have painted the miniatures from time to time and I've always loved the aesthetic. I wanted to create something that might exist in that universe whilst exploring my own ideas.

For this, my other inspiration sources were The Expendables and Porco Rosso.

zbrush sketching

I'm up to here after a week or so of lunch time messing in zbrush. Just a quick comp to see where I might go with it.
I'm thinking Camel, flamingo, turkey, velociraptor.

With my current contract, I have a near epic commute time of 2 1/2 - 3 hrs each way. I got myself an ipad to get angry at politicians on Facebook and sometimes do a little art. This piece was mostly created in Procreate I can create and store my own brushes and spin the canvas independently of orientaion. I use PS touch and Artrage from time to time if I need a particular effect.

I make no claims to being an illustrator, but in absence of a good 3d modelling package for the device i hope to broaden my capacity in complementary media.

latest post

Aren't I prolific?... No picture with this one, just a quick update:

I've been exploring new markets of late and am just now finishing up a short term contract with the Exallos Group at Robert Bird. I've had a very busy couple of months with long days and new work practices on a fresh Ex-Vis team. In addition to this I've been modelling Cars for IgniteGT (not Ignite Studios) for a racing sim game they're putting together called Sim Raceway.

No Pictures? everything I've worked on since my last post is under NDA, it's one of the downsides of contracting in this industry, Hopefully I can round up some nice pics to post very soon

Back Home

The family and I are back in Woodend (Victoria) after our working stay in Wellington. Actually we've been back 2 months now, felt a need to update tho as I start doing the rounds again.

Still doing some freelance work for Sidhe which has me pushing poly's in my spare time. If you or anyone you know needs a 3D artist, spin me a mail.
